How to give a really good relaxing back massage?
How can I give a really good relaxing back and sholder massage?
First use the right amount of pressure and understand the right amount is determined by the person receiving the massage.
Start at the neck and work down the back along the spine but long deliberate strokes. Have the person lie flat and as relaxed as possible. Use oil or some sort of lubricant. As you go along the back you will find areas that are more sore (listen to the other person) and those areas apply as much pressure directly into that point. Sometimes just apply direct pressure, sometimes use a swirling motion or sometimes a up and down motion. Figure what works best and remember.
One big key, when you are working on a large area, try to use your elbows and body weight. This may feel weird at first, but you can apply more pressure and not wear out your fingers. You do this by bending your arm and move your elbow up and down that back. Start lighter than you think and adjust. You won’t be able to feel the muscles as good, but your patient and your fingers will appreciate it.
After any massage, have the person drink plenty of water as you have just loosened up some tension and it will just settle back down if it is not flushed from the body.
Finally, just experiment and listen. Practice, practice, practice.
